Naturally as a “New York Yankee” (pun intended) I could never support the South back then. But I do support and join in revering the dead Confederate soldiers and monuments. What the condemners don’t realize is that if the war was held today I would be drafted into the Florida Militia no matter what my politics were. And I would serve with my neighbors to prevent those men from up there coming down here and burning down our houses and looting everything even though none of owned any slaves which was the case with over 80% white southerners.
Carl, you make an excellent point here. Many folks today, do not understand some aspects of the civil war. Gen. Lee hated slavery, and said as much at the time. He loved his state of Virgnia For him, and many others, it was about the rights of a state/people, to live thier lives free from the federal government’s tight grip. We are still seeing this played out today.
There’s still a lot of hate going on in the South, but they have the right to honor their civil war veterans. The Dixie flag can still be seen at the parades. The only problem they still have is the White Supremacists and bone heads thinking they are superior to others.

Just a working class, empty nesting, life long Democrat disgusted with the DNC, the Democratic Party, the ‘RULZ’ Committee and the power brokers who think we should all fall in line and vote for the selectee. Country before party every time!
