Stopped eating mackerel long time ago. Too oily and to me tastes like mineral spirits. They used to soak mackerel in milk overnight to change this but I ain’t buying it. Plus snapper and grouper is so much sweeter and white and flaky. M’s seem bloody like bonita and jack. On the other hand this plate looks so scrumptious I would forget everything I just said and jump right into it ! And the sauce and its content, I would pour over the rice as well.
There is hardly anywhere to fish in the ocean off Miami Dade anymore but years back when there was a pier the mackerel run Jan-Feb and blues and occasional snook too. We’d use pilchards and such but the blasted sea gulls would snatch the bait before it would hit water from our casts. Could not get any fish that day. Ate poultry instead.

Carl, I love mackerel right out of the can….like tuna. Scary thing, mackerel, fresh/frozen, makes awesome fish bait. 🙂 😦
