I am finding this out all too well now that I am running for president of my local union. I am guessing it is easier for some folks to simply label me as anti-union, mean-spirited Christian White guy than to try to prove my views wrong. I am a member of the liberal public union: CSEA. Though some members are conservative, too many are willing to sell out their values and principles and side with the union leadership when it comes to politics. 30 plus years of endorsing liberal democrats, tax increases, and anti business legislation have left California bankrupt. Shrink the tax base, and the tax revenues for schools and their employees shrink too. It is not that difficult to understand.
So for public union members who are losing their jobs or taking pay cuts, thank your liberal union leaders. I believe there is a place for public unions, but they need to be much more conservative by nature.

So many republicans and people right of center have been convinced successfully that the unions are the culprits of our current economic situation. The unions are the only advocate blue collar and white collar workers have. I think overall membership US at mere 12 %..

Carl, I posted a comment to the CSEA’s Face Book page, and it was removed in less than 5 minutes because I disagreed with some props that they are endorsing.

My union is pressuring the membership to vote democratic as usual, citing how the Republicans feel and threaten to do to organized labor and how they’re against us..Yada, yada, yada. If labor had proffered their support between the two parties, depending on the candidate rather than the party-line, what a force they would be reckon with, and could’ve “bargained” their sizeable support base with amazing results.. I think.

I happen to agree with you. But the higher you go in the union ranks, the more greed, and hate for anything GOP or conservative you find!
