This is what happens when greedy, liberal folks control the unions, and the membership follows them blindly. This can be avioded if conservative members will take control.
Unions explode as Michigan weighs right-to-work law – Washington Times.
If passed, the “Workplace Equity and Fairness Act” would end mandatory union dues collection at any Michigan company and would apply to both public and private workers, with the exception of firefighters and police. It would make Michigan the 24th state in the nation to adopt a right-to-work law, 10 months after neighboring Indiana adopted its own right-to-work law.

I support rtw and open shop. But also support the union. People should not be subject to closed shop but union membership is the only advocate workers have anymore against the politicians, megacorps and megabanks to get some trickle down benefits for working people.

Unions are dinosaurs from the past. They are bloated and as after the flood are not adaptable to this world. Enlightened business does not generally abuse workers as was done in the times of Upton Sinclair. We have enough redundant government bureaucracy without these union parasites feeding off the workers and clogging up the mechanism of industry. If we want to compete in the global economy we better realize you can’t pay a high school dropout $75 an hour to bolt on bumpers and expect sell cars. How many bailout does it take to screw in a light bulb.

I would not pay anyone $75 an hour to bolt on bumpers. “Enlightened business does not generally abuse workers ” I agree here and this is how I would run things. But today it is no med ins, no family benefits, no paid vacation, no sick leave with pay, no pension and the dental plan is a free toothbrush. All for $9 an hour-take it or leave it. So where are these lightened businesses?
Ain’t none in Miami except for teachers, firemen, cops and maybe hospital workers. Many are proposing the the public sector be leveled to the private sector as indicated above. They have it backwards. What kind of society or future will we have if the majority are living on macwages ? Recent figures indicate half US qualify for food stamps. That is astonishing. We are becoming a second world country that can boast one thing: superior military. But an irony there is that many of our lower grade enlisted and families also qualify for food stamps.
