When Dreams Don’t Rock

Let me make this perfectly clear (I am using my Nixon voice) when I had this dream I had not been guzzling suds, smoking hippie lettuce, licking frog bellies, or hanging by the neck naked playing tug-o-war with cyclops. This was a good ol’ fashion dream.
The dream took place in what appeared to be a tavern with a stage. Yeah, like I have been in a pace like this before. Up on stage were Waylon Jennings, Hank jr. and Merle Haggard. Jr is singing “A Country Boy Can Survive”, Waylon is playing a huge slide guitar, and Merle is banging a tambourine. Don’t ask me why, he just is. I am sitting at a table with their album cover, and the entire scene is playing on a small screen that is built into the cover. Under the screen are the words “Sneak Peak.”
All of a sudden Hank finishes with his tune, and Merle starts sining a Marty Robbin’s tune; “I Walk Alone.” And he sounds just like Marty. There is actually a video of these two on Marty’s t.v. show were Merle does this, and does it very well.
Sadly I wake up, and realize that I was not really in this honky tonk listening to my country favorites. This ranks in the top three of my all time favorite dreams that does not involve beer and reverseable under wear.

Tis The Season

As most folks who visit here know, I am a God believing guy. So I know the true meaning of the season. But there is another reason I love the season: Vacation….three flipping weeks of Hillbilly shenanigans. When you add beer, and video games to a guy who had only overdrive and no filter, it is three weeks of raging silliness!
It also marks the half way point of my work year. 91 more work days until the Summer of Hillbilly. Yeah, I stole the line from a Seinfeld episode. I have built my entire life around free time. I have never held a 40 hour, 12 month job in my life….and my financial portfolio proves it. Not that I have one mind you. If Keystone cans were stocks, I would own a million shares. If Golden Tee video golf (google it) was a savings account, I would have a few grand.
I realized early, that the more free time a person has, the longer they live, and the happier they seem. Notice, I make no reference to money. I also realize the stuff I like to do is pretty cheap. I figure God keeps me poor to ensure I don’t get into really big messes. You can’t take material crap to Heaven, but you can take your memories…and hopefully my really bad stories:)

There is much more to the story than what we in the West have been brainwashed with when it comes to Mandela’s story.
http://thebackbencher.co.uk/3-things-you-didnt-want-to-know-about-nelson-mandela/He signed off on the deaths of innocent people, lots of them
Nelson Mandela was the head of UmKhonto we Sizwe, (MK), the terrorist wing of the ANC and South African Communist Party. At his trial, he had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Many innocent people, including women and children, were killed by Nelson Mandela’s MK terrorists. Here are some highlights
-Church Street West, Pretoria, on the 20 May 1983
-Amanzimtoti Shopping complex KZN, 23 December 1985
-Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court, 17 March 1988
-Durban Pick ‘n Pay shopping complex, 1 September 1986
-Pretoria Sterland movie complex 16 April 1988 – limpet mine killed ANC terrorist M O Maponya instead
-Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, 20 May 1987
-Roodepoort Standard Bank 3 June, 1988
Tellingly, not only did Mandela refuse to renounce violence, Amnesty refused to take his case stating “[the] movement recorded that it could not give the name of ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ to anyone associated with violence, even though as in ‘conventional warfare’ a degree of restraint may be exercised.”
